In June 2023, the Luxembourg government announced major changes to meal vouchers, promising to completely transform their operation. Under the slogan “Up Meal Vouchers, Child’s Play,” Up Luxembourg has maintained its momentum over the past year, presenting a model that offers profitability and efficiency for individuals while simplifying processes for businesses. Notably, Up Luxembourg has partnered with renowned Luxembourg brands like Cactus, positioning itself not only as a service provider but also as a committed partner in the digital transformation journey of businesses. The changes regarding meal vouchers have brought some challenges, which Up Luxembourg has strived to address. One of these challenges is the daily limit imposed on meal vouchers. However, Up has proposed a solution via its mobile app, allowing users to manage their limits in real-time. Additionally, the clarification of this limit, set at five times the value of a voucher and fractionable throughout the day, aims to simplify the user experience. Furthermore, fees for lost cards or PIN codes have been resolved by making PIN codes accessible via the MyUp space, thus reducing inconvenience for users.

For employers, Up Luxembourg offers practical advice, including recommendations for companies wishing to introduce meal vouchers. Meanwhile, for merchants, Up’s transparent fee structure ensures clarity, guaranteeing a fair and equitable system for all stakeholders involved.

Up Luxembourg does not just simplify things. Up Luxembourg connects to payroll tools, making work faster for businesses. HRTech also helps freelancers and small businesses by automating orders, saving time, and making work smoother.

A year after the meal voucher reform, it is clear that Up Luxembourg has not only adapted to the changes but has also become a driver of digital transformation, offering solutions appreciated by businesses, merchants, and users. With innovation at the heart of its actions, Up Luxembourg continues to pave the way towards a smoother and more efficient ecosystem for the use of meal vouchers in Luxembourg.

The decision was twofold: the value of meal vouchers would increase from a maximum of €10.80 to €15, and paper restaurant tickets would be entirely replaced by digital vouchers by the end of 2024, with their use limited exclusively to the purchase of food products.

A year later, the landscape of meal vouchers in Luxembourg has undoubtedly evolved. The arrival of the Up Group, under the Monizze brand, operating as Up Luxembourg, has added a new dimension, challenging the long-standing duopoly of Pluxee (formerly Sodexo) and Edenred. In a country with 30,000 SMEs, this strategic initiative by Up Luxembourg is undeniably thoughtful and well-planned.

Where Are We Today ?

Gilles Feipel, Marketing Director of Cactus S.A., explained: “At Cactus, Up Luxembourg is not just a provider offering an additional payment method, but a committed service provider sharing a common vision: the best possible customer service in line with our value Fir Iech do ! This carefully crafted collaboration integrates elements such as innovation, proximity, and efficiency, and we see this partnership as a very attractive payment option for our mutual customers.”

Changes and Challenges for Up Luxembourg
